We’ve been practising hard for our summer concert. We're singing several beautiful and well-known melodies. One that many of us have really taken to is the King’s Singers arrangement of ‘You are the New Day’. The melody, harmonies and words all come together in an extraordinary way. Interestingly, the song was written by the Welsh rock musician John David all in one evening when he was feeling very low due to personal circumstances and the state of the world. He started singing to the new day and thinking how it was full of hope. He says he wrote it in just ten minutes! Music sometimes has a way of creeping up on you and changing your mood. It’s something we notice in our choir – we might not always feel like going out again in the evening to the rehearsal but by the end of it, we leave uplifted and in good spirits.
In addition to music written in Wales, we’re singing folk songs from across England, Scotland and Ireland. And for those who love Stanford’s ‘The Blue Bird’, we’re singing the beautiful reflective piece ‘Heraclitus’. There are also some piano solos. A full programme is available on our website.
We are, once again, delighted to be welcoming the mayor to our concert. We hope you can join us too at 6pm on Sunday 6th July at St Lawrence Church, Eastcote. There will be chance afterwards to socialise with a glass and a finger buffet. We hope you, too, leave full of hope for the New Day. |
