You’ll have come across Andrew Lloyd Webber, of course, through his musicals. And his brother, Julian Lloyd Webber is well known too – a world-renowned solo cellist. But we’re performing something a little different at our forthcoming concert, some William Lloyd Webber. As you might have guessed, William is the father of Andrew and Julian. He was an organist and a composer in his own right as well as Director of the London College of Music for many years. And he studied with Ralph Vaughan Williams. He wrote the delightful “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” in 1964. We have enjoyed practising this piece and can’t help thinking as we sing the catchy tune that Andrew and Julian were influenced musically by their father. And surely their mother too, as Jean Johnstone was an accomplished pianist and violinist. Nature or nurture? Either way, we are fortunate to be singing this beautiful piece along with lots of other great music at our spring concert. We do hope you’ll join us for what promises to be a wonderful evening! |
